BEACHLY TIPS: 5 BENEFITS THAT COME FROM TAKING A WALK EVERY DAY

5 benefits that come from taking a walk every day

Alohaaa Beachly Tribe! Want to know how we can kick-up the good vibes in 2021? Starting new habits! I've been working hard on pulling together a list of new habits to start in the new year. But we're going to take it one step at a time... literally! Today I'm sharing all the perks and benefits of one of my favorite things to do - walk! It might sound silly or too simple, but I promise you'll love the changes that come from starting this new habit. Are you ready to check it out? Let's dive in!

Benefit 1: Moving your body

This first benefit is obvious, but hey - it's true! When you make daily walks a new habit, the direct benefit is that you're moving your body and getting some exercise. Whether you're taking a stroll around the neighborhood, walking along the beach, or committing to a hike - any walk is a good walk. Plus, it gets you out of the house! And we've spent most of this year cooped up. So let's make a commitment together and start one step (walk) at a time to start getting outside, breathing in the fresh air, and soaking up some sunshine.

Benefit 2: Getting outside

I hinted a bit at the second benefit up above - fresh air, sunshine - what more could you ask for!? I know I can speak for myself when I say I've spent far more hours than I would have liked indoors in 2020. Committing to a daily walk gives me at least 15-20 minutes of getting outside every day - and if that's the best place to start from, then why not start now!?

Benefit 3: Listening to a podcast

One of my favorite things to do when taking daily walks is listen to a podcast. And when I walk, I love to plug my headphones in and fill my mind with some good old podcast content. Whether it's educational, lifestyle, or in the humor category - it's a great way to turn my mind off, move my body, get fresh air, and listen to my favorite podcasts! Here's my two favorite podcasts to start with.

Benefit 4: Unplugging from digital

I discovered a new enemy in 2020... and it's that little notification that pops up on my phone to give me a recap on my daily and weekly screentime. Ahhhh! Every time I see it I can't believe how many minutes (let's be real... hours) I spend tuned into the digital world. When I go on my daily walk, I put my phone in my pocket and try my best not to check it or scroll. Unplugging from the digital, social media world is an absolute must for our mental and emotional well-being. Do you agree!?

Benefit 5: Catching up with a friend

And last but not least, a fun perk of going on a daily walk is being able to catch up with a loved one! I always struggle to find time to set aside and call someone I love, so when I walk, I always try to give a ring to an old friend or a family member. Pssst... it makes the time go by faster too and before you know it you'll have walked over a mile. Score!

So what do you think? Are you going to commit to daily walks this year? You'll walk away feeling refreshed and rejuvenated with this list of benefits. And trust me, there's so many more, too! Stay tuned for more new habits to start in 2021 - coming your way soon :)
